While surfing YouTube the other day, I heard about a singer named Maria Digby who landed a record deal after uploading videos of herself performing her songs. Naturally I was curious and randomly chose this video. I have been an emotional wreck ever since.
The song, "Ugly Betty", made me think that perhaps, just perhaps, there is an UGLY BETTY inside of me. Maybe I am just a nobody, a little spec on a the heartless island of Manhattan trying to make it through the day. Maybe each day I have this little Ugly Betty who gets crushed by random cruel fates. Maybe after each day of little insults and humiliations, I wake up the next morning hopeful that things will be different. Maybe everybody has an "Ugly Betty" inside of them and I never noticed it until NOW.
(sniff)
One of my friends just called and told me I have NO RIGHT to claim ANY CONNECTION with Ugly Betty.
Here is why:
1) I have a job where people agree to pay for artwork BEFORE THEY HAVE EVEN SEEN ANYTHING.
2) Commuters stare at me with unbridled HATE because I play golf on the weekdays. The fact that I am gleefully pointing at them as I race to the course doesn't help either.
3) My sister is investigating to see if I might have possibly violated the Geneva Convention as an older brother.
4) My favorite hobby? Slapping toy dogs.
If you will excuse me, I have to take my Ugly Betty to the gym.
I am going to use my Ugly Betty to BEAT THE CRAP out of my friend's Ugly Betty.

You know what's sad? That this girl had to post something online to get a record contract! Just in watching this, it's obvious that she has MORE TALENT than all of the american idols combined! AND she's much prettier too!
AND she can play an instrument!
AND she has a kind heart (singing about Ugly Betty's and all)...
