Imagine a world where you open your morning paper, sip your coffee and right in the middle of the page is a giant BLANK SPACE!!! Scary, right? Imagine that everything you see, things like posters, ads, books, and magazines have this same blank space! Society, actually mankind as we know it would cease to exist.
Editors and Art Directors know this, so they call on illustrators to fill the void. Not just fill space, but fill it with something good. The powerbrokers know disaster is just around the corner, so we better succeed or they will "Tear our drawing arms off and beat us about the head with our arms." It is my job to constantly create under duress. Blank space appears out of nowhere all the time so our work is never done. We are the tough guys who fill the scary blank spaces. This does not include those who whine all the time. They are known as "Whiny Illustrators".
Here's an example of a job that is FAR easier than mine:
Employee for Naomi Campbell.
Next time you meet an illustrator, don't be scared. We promise not to hurt you.

Dude, this is the best description of an illustrator. Well done, very true, though imagine living in this world, without illustration, yuck!
yangblog, David unwittingly posted your blog URL at the end of an e-mail today. I say "unwittingly" because I've spent all morning looking at it & laughing myself silly.
p.s. I love this illustration (July 18)
